Tony La Russa was born in Tampa, Florida on October 4, 1944. He broke into the major leagues at an early age and has been involved with major league baseball even since. From playing the game to coaching the game, Tony La Russa has got talent. He might have a few personal problems, but he has no problem with how to win a game.
On May 10, 1963 he was signed on with the Kansas City Athletics. He played for the Oakland A’s for the 1968 and 1969 season before being traded off to the Atlanta Braces in late 1971. He played one game in 1973 for the Chicago Cubs. He currently resides with the St. Louis Cardinals as their manager. In 2004, he became the sixth manager in the history of major league baseball to win both the American and the National League pennants. Two years later in 2006, he became the first manager to win both pennants multiple times. He shares the title of Manager of the Year for both of baseball’s major leagues with only two other managers. He became the current leader in managers for the Cardinals for wins on August 31, 2007.
Although his career in playing baseball was short, he has a long list of wins and awards that he has received for his outstanding manager skills. He continues to amaze us and it doesn’t look like he has any plans of retiring soon. Each year seems to get better and better.
